Work Injuries

Specialized care for Work Comp injuries

Work-related injuries can be devastating to the injured worker and his or her family. That’s why the skilled and highly experienced physical therapists at Suburban Physical Therapy developed a comprehensive Workers’ Compensation work injury treatment program.

Occupational injury rehabilitation

For patients who have been injured on the job, we implement manual physical therapy techniques, exercise and modalities to speed return to work. Our therapists assess work duties and provide exercises that simulate workplace requirements.

Ergonomic safety study

An ergonomic study is an analysis of how a worker responds when performing a task in relation to the work environment. Our Certified Professional Ergonomist reviews the impact of injury on the worker’s job performance to:

  • Identify risks for work-related musculoskeletal disorders
  • Establish physical qualifications for safe job performance
  • Recommend job modifications that enable you to work safely and productively within specified work abilities

Functional capacity evaluation

The functional capacity evaluation (FCE) is an extensive evaluation that analyzes your ability to perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, squatting, kneeling, ladder and stair climbing, overhead reaching, crawling and bending activities. We provide detailed results to your physician and case manager. Your physician will use your FCE to determine if you are ready to return to work and any restrictions.

Workability fitness screen

This is an objective, post-offer screen for workers entering physically demanding jobs to:

  • Identify pre-existing conditions for work injury claims
  • Assess functional abilities and job compatibility
  • Teach proper lifting mechanics or preventive exercise

Workability injury assessment (WIA)

We perform this post-injury assessment at the work site during the acute or sub-acute phase of recovery. We evaluate your compatibility with job demands and the need for transitional work or therapy activities to expedite your return to full duty. Assessment includes:

  • Review of claim circumstances, subjective complaints and functional job demands
  • Evaluation of objective neuromuscular findings that support claims allowances
  • Testing of worker restrictions related to lifting, agility and dexterity

A WIA helps prevent unnecessary lost-time or restricted-duty days. Referral should be considered when the physician will not release the worker to modified duty, the worker reports difficulty with assigned transitional work duties or the worker has not progressed back to full duty within a reasonable time period.

Work conditioning program

This individualized therapy program focuses on helping the injured worker regain optimal function and return to work through physical conditioning and job simulation tasks.
